How to Make Result Cards in Minutes

What a result card is
A result card is one page per student: their marks in each test, the total, the grade, and their position in the class. Parents understand it at a glance, and students can see exactly where they stand.
SMS builds result cards from the marks you already entered. There is no second round of typing, and no spreadsheet to format.
Start with marks, not with the card
A result card is only as good as the marks behind it. First create the assessment, enter the marks, and finalize it. Finalizing locks the marks so the card cannot change under you later.
If a result is missing from a card, it is almost always because that assessment is not finalized yet. See From Paper Tests to Digital Records for the full marks flow.
Open the student sheet
Go to Results and open the sheet for the assessment, or open the student and look at their Test Results tab. Both show the same numbers: marks, percentage, grade, and position.
The sheet ranks students fairly: students with the same marks share the same position, and the next position is skipped, so two students tied at 2nd place are followed by 4th place, not 3rd.
- Open Results from the sidebar.
- Pick the assessment sheet, or open a student to see their own results.
- Check the marks, grades, and positions before you print.
Export the card
From the report or the student page, export a PDF. One PDF per student, ready to print or send. On a paid plan you can also export the same data as a spreadsheet or a plain file.
Print a batch before parent meetings, or send one card at a time. Either way, the numbers on the card match the numbers in the app — they come from the same marks.
Absent and excused students
A student marked Absent for a test is listed separately on the sheet — not as a zero, not as a fail. A student marked Exempt is left out of the average and the ranking entirely.
That is why a result card never punishes a student for a test they were excused from. The User guide walks through the whole flow with pictures.
