Using SMS on Your Phone: Attendance and Marks on the Go
2026-10-16 · 3 min read · SMS
Built for the classroom, not the desk
You take attendance standing in a classroom, not sitting at a desk. SMS is built for that: open it on your phone, mark the register, and put the phone away.
Nothing on the phone version is a cut-down copy. Attendance, marks, students, and reports all work the same as on a computer.
No sideways scrolling
Every page fits the width of your phone. You scroll down, never sideways. The only place that scrolls sideways is inside a wide table, and even there it stays inside its own box.
If a page ever forces you to scroll sideways, that is a bug — tell us and it will be fixed.
Bottom navigation
On your phone, the main sections sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen: Home, Students, Attendance, Tests, and a More button for everything else. Your thumb is already there.
The header holds the search box and the session picker, so you can find a student or switch sessions without opening the menu.
- Sign in on your phone's browser.
- Use the bottom bar to jump between Home, Students, Attendance, and Tests.
- Tap More for Reports, Analytics, Settings, and everything else.
Marking on a small screen
The attendance register and the marks grid both work by tapping. Mark each student, save once, and you are done. The same rules apply as on desktop: blank means not marked yet, and corrections ask for a reason.
Long forms — adding a student, creating an assessment — are split into steps, so the Save button is always reachable and nothing is cut off at the bottom of the screen.
No app to install
SMS runs in your phone's browser. There is nothing to download and nothing to update — you always get the latest version when you open it.
Getting started: User guide. For attendance itself, see How to Take Attendance in Seconds.
